The parents of these children are often anxious, thinking that their child has developed a bad habit, and they are eager to help their child break this bad habit, even staring at their child all day long, making the child very nervous. Due to the lack of proper guidance, the child’s illness often gets worse with the “help” of the parents. I hope that this article will be helpful to children with Tourette’s syndrome and their parents. Tic disorder is a common childhood disorder, and its first symptom is often eye twitching, which is manifested by the child blinking unconsciously and forcefully, and can also be manifested by such actions as shrinking the nose, nudging the mouth, shaking the head, shrugging the shoulders, flinging the hands, nodding the head, kicking the legs, twisting the waist, and even throat rattling and involuntary “hum”, “hmm”, “hmm”, and “hmm”. “These actions often interfere with the child’s attention. These actions often interfere with the child’s concentration and affect the efficiency of learning. Moreover, because classmates and teachers often do not understand that these actions are due to the child’s illness, they often alienate or ridicule the child, making the child dislike school more and more, resulting in a decline in academic performance, low self-esteem and even boredom, which seriously affects the child’s healthy growth. We can often observe that emotional excitement, mental stress, excessive fatigue or cold can aggravate the tics. Therefore, it is not enough to rely on medication alone for the treatment of tics, but psycho-behavioral treatment is also needed. Parents and children, and even teachers should be involved together in an effort to eliminate these aggravating factors for better treatment results. Here, I give you some behavioral treatment suggestions, and I hope that parents and children will cooperate carefully for better results. Treatment suggestions for children with Tourette’s syndrome: 1. Try to avoid excitatory factors such as MSG, coffee, tea, etc. 2, try not to eat food containing artificial coloring and other additives such as a variety of drinks and snacks. 3. Try to control the time of watching TV and using computer, and play less electronic games, including computer, IPAD and cell phone games, etc. 4, try to ensure sleep time, establish a good routine, do not stay up late. 5. Parents should not be overly concerned and worried about their children’s tic symptoms and avoid infecting them with anxiety. Make an effort to help your child relax, reduce his or her mental burden, and create a relaxed and happy environment for your child to grow up. Parents can also take the initiative to communicate with teachers so that they realize that this is a disease, not a child being naughty and disobedient, and thus be more understanding and tolerant of their children. Because the causes of tics are complex, they are related to genetics, infection, brain injury, hypoxia, trace element imbalance, mental and environmental factors. Therefore, before treatment, doctors often need to give the child some tests to try to identify the cause. However, due to the current state of medical technology, many causes cannot be identified. Children with Tourette’s syndrome often have ADHD. These children are inattentive, impulsive, capricious, and even irritable, making them difficult to discipline and possibly further aggravating their learning disabilities. These children may be more difficult to treat and require additional treatment such as attention training. Sometimes the movements of tics are similar to those of seizures, and doctors may need to perform tests such as video EEG to further identify them. With treatment, most children eventually have a good prognosis, and only a few have symptoms that last into adulthood.
