What are tonsillar swellings in general

If a swelling grows on top of the tonsils, in most cases it is considered to be a tonsil cyst formation or a papilloma on the tonsils, often triggered by frequent inflammation of the patient’s tonsils, usually on one side of the tonsils, and the patient may experience a distinct foreign body sensation when swallowing. To clarify the nature of the mass, pathology needs to be taken, and pathology is the gold standard for diagnosis. If it is determined to be a cyst or papilloma, surgical removal is sufficient. However, if the pathology returns to consider the possibility of malignancy, a systemic examination is often needed to rule out the possibility of metastasis. At the same time, the patient needs to further decide on the treatment, such as surgical excision or radiotherapy, and the patient’s tonsillar swelling should improve significantly after aggressive symptomatic treatment.
