What’s that little bump on the upper eyelid?

There are several possibilities for a small bump on the upper eyelid. If it grows on the inside of the eyelid, this is considered to be a localized chalazion or wheal. Generally, chalazion is just a cyst of the blepharoplasty gland, with no redness, swelling, heat, or pain, whereas if it is a wheal, it has the typical redness, swelling, heat, and pain, and it requires the use of anti-inflammatory eye drops for treatment. If the bumps grow on the outside of the eyelid there are also a variety of possibilities, the more common is the soft fibroma that grows on the eyelid area, also known as a dermatoma, which is a small, soft swelling with a tip, or it may also be a blepharocanthoma in the eyelid area, which is a yellow, patchy bump caused by lipid deposits. In addition, if the outer eyelid bumps are also red, swollen, hot and painful, it may be a localized infectious folliculitis, or a small boil, which also needs to be treated with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs.
