Does minimally invasive thyroid surgery do a clean job?

Minimally invasive thyroid surgery, is capable of removing diseased thyroid tissue, but open surgery is recommended for patients who require conditions such as total thyroidectomy. Minimally invasive thyroid surgeries include laparoscopic surgery and radiofrequency ablation. Radiofrequency ablation involves the use of an ablation needle to penetrate the skin of the patient’s neck under ultrasound guidance and then reach into the diseased tissue for ablation. Lumpectomy involves the removal of diseased tissue from the thyroid gland under the microscope after a hole has been made in the breast or armpit. These surgical methods are able to remove thyroid lesions cleanly and with good aesthetic results. However, open surgery is recommended for patients with benign thyroid tumors of large diameters or malignant thyroid tumors that require removal of most or all of the thyroid gland or lymph node dissection. Patients who need minimally invasive thyroid surgery are recommended to go to regular hospitals for treatment.
