Chrysanthemum is cold in nature and should not be used to treat cold phlegm and cough, so as to avoid adverse effects on the original condition caused by the incorrect medicine. The drug source of Bile Nansing is the fine powder of the manufactured Tennant and the bile of cow, sheep or pig processed, or the fine powder of the raw Tennant and the bile of cow, sheep or pig processed by fermentation, which has a bitter taste, slightly pungent, cool nature, and belongs to the lung, liver and spleen meridians. It can be used to clear away heat and resolve phlegm (eliminating heat and resolving phlegm), and calm wind and fright (stabilizing the frightened state of mind by eliminating wind in the body). It can be used in the treatment of phlegm-heat cough with yellowish phlegm, or phlegmatic disorientation of stroke and epilepsy, but cannot be used in the treatment of cold-phlegm cough. Cold-phlegm coughs should be treated with medicines that warm cold-phlegm (replenish the body’s yang qi to resolve phlegm) under the guidance of a physician, such as half-summers, mustard seeds, and celandine, and should not be treated blindly with Chinese herbs on one’s own.
