How is itchy, dry and cracked skin treated in winter?

Winter is here, some people have dry skin on both legs, chapped, flaky, and obviously itchy, like the appearance of open pieces of porcelain. Some patients are twice a day bath, thunder, and like to rub the bath, some patients found dry itchy skin after the playful boiling water scalding wash, the result is the hotter the more itchy, more and more dry. This is actually a special kind of eczema, called lack of lipid eczema. The patient can’t help but ask: Isn’t eczema only for high humidity? I’m so dry, how can I get eczema? In fact, eczema is not caused by “wetness”, it is an allergic disease caused by the combined effect of the internal and external environment. As the name implies, lack of lipid eczema is a special type of eczema caused by the lack of a protective lipid film layer on the skin. In middle-aged and elderly people, the skin’s ability to retain water in the stratum corneum decreases due to skin aging and a decrease in the synthesis of the skin’s “natural moisturizing factors”, resulting in rough, flaky skin. In winter, when the ambient temperature is low, if you still bathe as often as in summer, habitually rubbing the bath, excessive use of soap or shower gel, etc., resulting in damage to the skin barrier function, it is more likely to trigger a lack of lipid eczema. Generally speaking, mild eczema is characterized by a cloudy, fine scales, while severe eczema is characterized by longitudinal and horizontal skin fissures like a “dry riverbed” or “broken porcelain”, accompanied by pronounced itching. So, how to deal with it? First of all, we should avoid any factors that aggravate dry skin, such as less bathing, no scalding, less soap and excessive scrubbing, using moisturizers after bathing especially medical skincare grade moisturizers (olive oil, glycerin, cooking oil are not recommended as moisturizers because they do not contain physiological moisturizing ingredients), and avoiding the vicious cycle of frequent scratching. In conclusion, it is crucial to choose the right moisturizer for winter skin care. Only by learning to skincare sensibly can you avoid unnecessary skin problems.
