How people with pulmonary fibrosis can exercise

Patients with pulmonary fibrosis should undergo individualized pulmonary rehabilitation, appropriate exercise, etc.

1. Pulmonary rehabilitation exercises, such as breathing exercises. It can increase the muscle strength of the respiratory muscles and relieve the degeneration of the respiratory system in the elderly. The method is to lie on your back, make a fist with both hands and flex and extend at the elbow joint for 5 to 10 times, and take 5 to 10 calm deep breaths; extend both arms forward and upward alternately, and breathe naturally for 5 to 10 times; and flex and extend both legs alternately at the knee joint for 5 to 10 times.

2. Appropriate exercise. Patients with mild disease can take walks, play tai chi, ride bicycles and other sports to strengthen resistance and prevent colds.

If the patient’s pulmonary fibrosis lesions are more serious, it is usually not recommended to carry out too many outdoor activities to avoid accidents, and to adhere to long-term home oxygen therapy.
