Gradually start to try adding salt in small amounts after 1 year of age.
Babies before 1 year old have a very low demand for salt, and the amount in breast milk or formula milk can satisfy the baby’s body needs without additional additions.
The kidney function of babies under 1 year old is not yet fully developed. Eating salt too early will increase the amount of water consumed, resulting in overloading of the kidneys and affecting the metabolism of newborn babies, which is unfavorable to their growth and development. Therefore, it is recommended to add salt after 1 year of age.
Eating salt within 1 year of age may cause the baby to develop a heavy taste and lose interest in plain food, causing the baby to develop anorexia, picky eating, partiality and so on, affecting its normal growth and development.
The addition of complementary foods for babies should be given extra attention, and new mothers should consult their doctors to add complementary foods in a timely and appropriate manner.
