Does Shoulder Arthroscopy Affect Fingers

Shoulder arthroscopic surgery may affect the fingertips, and the influence mainly comes from two aspects: nerve and blood vessel.
1. Nerve: Shoulder arthroscopy is one of the more popular arthroscopic surgeries in recent years, with the advantages of small incision and fast recovery. However, shoulder arthroscopy may also cause edema of local tissues, resulting in nerve compression and numbness and weakness of fingers; in addition, there may be some pulling on the nerve tissues during the operation, which may also lead to the above symptoms.
2. Vascular aspect: the tissue edema caused by shoulder arthroscopy may cause a certain degree of pressure on the blood vessels supplying the distal fingers, and the symptoms of numbness and coldness of the fingers may appear after the operation; in rare cases, the important blood vessels innervating the forearm are damaged due to the operation error, and the above symptoms may also appear.
If the symptoms of numbness and pain in the fingers are not relieved after shoulder arthroscopy, or if they are accompanied by other symptoms, the patient should go to the hospital in time, and be given targeted treatment after the cause is clarified.
