Montelukast sodium is a leukotriene receptor antagonist and a representative of respiratory anti-inflammatory drugs. Montelukast sodium is effective on the same day of treatment of acute bronchial asthma and can be maintained for 7 days to 3 months. Montelukast sodium is antispasmodic and wheezing for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and can be considered for discontinuation at 1 week. In the case of pediatric chronic variant rhinitis and cough variant asthma, pediatricians recommend montelukast sodium for up to 3 months. In case of recurrent allergic asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, allergic rhinitis, montelukast sodium is recommended for long-term use. If it is discontinued after a few days of consumption it can lead to a recurrence and aggravation of airway inflammation and, if necessary, administration of fluids, hormones, etc. Therefore, montelukast sodium is a very convenient and good oral anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic drug. It is recommended to take it for 1-3 months and not to stop it casually, the side effects of this drug are relatively few and all can be tolerated.
