Patients may experience vision loss after the age of 18, mostly due to eye diseases.
There are many eye diseases that can cause vision loss, and many of them start to appear after the age of 18, so even after reaching the age of 18, patients may still experience vision loss.
Diseases such as cataract and age-related macular degeneration, which usually start to develop in middle and old age, can cause significant vision loss. Patients can be treated with cataract ultrasonic emulsification suction combined with IOL implantation, intravitreal injections of compazine or abciximab, and other medications, to improve their vision.
Refractive error usually develops in adolescence, and most of the patients will not suffer from vision loss when their prescription stabilizes in adulthood. However, for patients with high myopia and high astigmatism, their prescription may continue to progress in adulthood, and thus patients may suffer from vision loss.
It is recommended that patients with vision loss should consult a hospital in a timely manner to assess their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
