What does the first stage of oral cancer look like?

Initial oral cancer can be manifested as ulcerative, exophytic and infiltrative types, which are crater-like ulcers with elevated margins, slightly elevated and rough surface of mucous membrane, cauliflower-like protrusions and so on.
1. Ulcerative type: Cancer cells are confined to the overlying epithelium in the early stage and have not yet invaded the neighboring tissues, which is called carcinoma in situ. Ulcerative tumors mostly occur in the superficial part of skin or mucosa, manifesting as crater-like ulcers with raised margins.
2. Infiltrative tumor develops faster, grows to the deep part and surrounding tissues in the early stage, and the surface is slightly elevated and rough.
3. The exophytic tumor manifests as cauliflower pattern, often combined with infection and necrosis.
If oral cancer is diagnosed, it is recommended to carry out standardized treatment as early as possible to reduce the adverse effects of the disease.
