Childhood is the peak of epilepsy

The peak incidence of epilepsy is in childhood, with the highest incidence in the first year of life and a gradual decline in incidence after age 10. Epilepsy is one of the most common and prevalent diseases in childhood. 1. Causes of childhood epilepsy: Like adults, childhood epilepsy can be classified as idiopathic, symptomatic, and cryptogenic according to its etiology. Common causes include: congenital factors, abnormal brain development, perinatal injuries, central nervous system infections, neurodegenerative diseases, craniocerebral trauma, and brain tumors, but to date, there are still some unknown causes. 2. Why do children get epilepsy: The pathogenesis of epilepsy is a very complex issue, and there are many problems that are still unclear. The same cause does not necessarily cause epilepsy, and the types of seizures can be different. It is believed that as science progresses, the pathogenesis of epilepsy will become clearer and clearer. Parents of children with epilepsy should fully understand and accept this fact. 3. Whether it is the parents’ fault that their child has epilepsy: It is a very common phenomenon that parents blame themselves after their child’s illness. Many parents of affected children want to find the cause of their child’s epilepsy and first consider whether their own problems caused their child’s illness, including genetic causes or other problems, such as medication during pregnancy. In fact, epilepsy is the result of a combination of factors. Therefore, it is important for parents to face the reality correctly and rationally, and blindly blaming themselves or each other will not do any good for the control of their child’s condition.
