Inflammation of the apical lung is a specific type of pneumonia. Symptoms may include pain in the back of the shoulder on the apical side of the lung or pain in the upper anterior chest, which may be boring, stabbing or reflex pain. The inflammatory reaction may be accompanied by a continuous increase in body temperature and even coughing up blood or yellow sputum.
