Phosgene poisoning will have associated pulmonary changes within 6-15 hours or less of inhalation, producing acute manifestations such as nausea, dizziness, coughing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, etc. At a later stage there will be a remission period of symptoms, that is, the GI irritation may be relieved at that time, but the pulmonary lesions are still progressing. Photopneumonia can cause pulmonary edema, making the patient appear feverish, cold, irritable, chest tightness, shortness of breath, dyspnea, and even coughing up pink foamy sputum and other manifestations of pulmonary edema, which can last for 1-4 days. After treatment, the pulmonary edema is absorbed and the patient’s symptoms gradually recover.
