Where are the ligaments?

Ligaments are dense, fibrous connective tissues that are attached between two adjacent bones. They have the effect of strengthening the joints and limiting excessive joint movement.
Ligaments are made up of tightly connected fibrous connective tissue. They can be located outside or inside the joint capsule. Ligaments located outside the joint capsule are called extracapsular ligaments, while ligaments located inside the joint capsule are called intracapsular ligaments.
Ligaments are attached between two neighboring bones and are found throughout most of the body between bones and bones. Ligaments are found near almost all larger joints. Almost all ligaments have bone around them. For example, the medial collateral ligament of the knee connects the femur to the tibia, and the patellar ligament connects the patella to the tibia.
