Will a centipede bite cause death?

Most centipede bites will not cause death. Centipedes are polypods and their venom glands can secrete a large amount of venom. When a person is bitten by a centipede, the venom can be injected into the body through the skin resulting in poisoning, and the exact severity is highly dependent on the amount of venom injected by the centipede. Most of the patients bitten by centipedes only have local inflammation, swollen lymph nodes and local tissue necrosis. A few patients may develop systemic symptoms such as headache, fever, nausea and vomiting. Very few patients may have life-threatening conditions due to untimely treatment and the fact that the centipede they have come into contact with carries a high level of venom, but these cases are relatively rare. It is recommended that after being bitten by a centipede, immediate medical attention is needed for anti-allergy and symptomatic supportive treatment to help improve the prognosis.
