Adenomyosis refers to adenomyosis of the uterus. Curettage may aggravate adenomyosis. Curettage is a surgical procedure in which the endometrium is removed with a spatula after dilating the cervix with a metal dilator, and is used clinically to take biopsies, diagnose endometrial abnormalities, or for the treatment of incomplete abortions. Curettage can damage the lining of the uterus and may lead to invasion of endometrial cells into the myometrium, which can exacerbate adenomyosis. In addition, childbirth, endometrial inflammation, and hyperestrogenemia can also aggravate adenomyosis, leading to increased menstrual flow, prolonged periods, and menstrual cramps. When adenomyosis is severe, it can affect a woman’s quality of life, but the symptoms can be relieved with treatment, so patients are advised to seek timely medical treatment and follow the doctor’s instructions.
