Lumbar disc herniation and spinal stenosis can be treated by general treatment, medication (e.g., ibuprofen), and surgery. 1. Lumbar disc herniation: bed rest is needed in acute attack, appropriate activities in remission period, avoiding excessive lumbar activity; ibuprofen, celecoxib and other drugs can be used to relieve the pain when it is severe; drugs such as epirubicin can be used to relax the muscles in case of muscle spasms; dehydrate such as mannitol can be used to alleviate the lumbar spinal nerve edema in the acute stage. If the disease duration is more than 3 months and the conservative treatment is ineffective, it can be treated by open surgery or endoscopic removal of lumbar intervertebral disc. 2. Spinal stenosis: patients should rest in bed, avoid moving the affected area, and can wear a support for the diseased area; use ibuprofen and aspirin to relieve pain under the guidance of a physician; use vitamin B, methylcobalamin and other nutrients to nourish the nerves; use methylprednisolone to reduce the symptom of edema of compressed nerves; and decompression of the spinal canal can be carried out in case of serious conditions. It is recommended that patients consult a doctor for timely treatment and strictly follow the doctor’s instructions.
