Is it important that the jaundice hasn’t gone down in 60 days?

Jaundice that has not subsided after 60 days of birth is a serious concern. It is considered to be pathologic jaundice and requires prompt attention.
Usually, physiologic jaundice may occur when the baby’s serum bilirubin level is abnormal. Physiological jaundice appears 2~4 days after birth, and most of them subside within 2 weeks, while preterm babies can delay to 3~4 weeks. If jaundice persists for more than 2 weeks in term babies or more than 4 weeks in preterm babies, then we need to be alert to pathological jaundice.
Pathological jaundice in babies is mainly due to excessive production of bilirubin, hepatic bilirubin metabolism disorders, bile excretion disorders, etc., patients need to be guided by the doctor for light treatment or blood exchange therapy.
It is recommended that if jaundice has not subsided after 60 days of birth, parents should pay attention to it and bring their babies to the doctor for examination in time, and take reasonable treatment measures after clarifying the original disease under the guidance of the doctor.
