How soon can I walk with a broken ankle bone

If a patient develops an ankle fracture, it usually takes about eight weeks to walk. Therefore, it is important for the patient to seek medical attention after the ankle fracture to observe the damage and ectopic condition of the fracture end. If the fracture is well aligned and does not affect the stability and anatomy of the ankle joint, the ankle can be fixed in a cast or brace for about six weeks to limit the movement of the fracture and to facilitate the recovery of the fracture. After six weeks, the immobilization can be removed and the ankle flexion and extension exercises and leg muscle strength exercises can be performed in bed for two weeks, and after two weeks, light weight-bearing activities can be performed on crutches. If the ankle fracture is significantly displaced, resulting in the destruction of the normal anatomical structure of the ankle joint and affecting the stability of the ankle joint, surgical repositioning and internal fixation treatment is required, and you can usually walk with crutches until eight weeks after surgery.
