Elderly people feel hand swelling may be a normal physiological manifestation. It may also be caused by inflammatory edema due to trauma, varicose veins of the upper extremities, arthritis and other diseases. 1. Normal physiological manifestations: the elderly subcutaneous fat decreases with age, and the skin tissue becomes loose. With the aging and necrosis of normal cells, the local tissue fluid will increase, and the elderly will feel the hand swelling. 2. Disease causes (1) Trauma: If an elderly person’s hand has recently been struck or injured by an external force, it can easily cause an inflammatory response in the soft tissues of the hand. With the increase of inflammatory exudate, the elderly will feel the hand swelling. (2) Upper extremity varicose veins: If the elderly suffer from diseases such as upper extremity venous thrombosis and upper extremity phlebitis, which lead to dysfunction of the venous blood vessels of the upper extremity, the restriction of venous blood flow leads to upper extremity varicose veins. Blood stagnation in the hands leads to blood stasis, which results in an increase in interstitial fluid, and the elderly will feel bloated hands. (3) Arthritis: If the elderly suffer from degenerative arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout and other diseases, it leads to localized synovitis of the finger joints, resulting in an increase in tissue exudate. It will also affect the soft tissues of the hands, and the elderly will feel the hand swelling. Hand swelling in the elderly may also be caused by other factors, which should be noted. It is recommended to go to the hospital in time to improve the examination, and according to the results of the examination to carry out appropriate treatment.
