Can normal CA199 and 125 rule out cancer?

Normal CA199 and 125 cannot exclude cancer.

Both CA199 and 125 belong to tumor markers, which have certain sensitivity to cancer, for example, CA199 is sensitive to pancreatic cancer, stomach cancer, intestinal cancer, etc., and CA125 is sensitive to ovarian cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, etc.. Thus, cancer is not accompanied by elevated associated tumor markers.

As mentioned above, normal CA199 and 125 cannot exclude cancer, on the contrary, if CA199 and 125 are abnormal, it does not confirm the diagnosis of cancer, because some benign diseases can also lead to the elevation of tumor markers, for example, pancreatitis, cholecystitis and so on can lead to CA199 elevation, hepatitis, autoimmune diseases and so on can cause the elevation of CA125.

CA199 and 125, as tumor markers, can be used as reference indicators for cancer diagnosis, but cannot be used as the basis for confirming the diagnosis. Cancer diagnosis mainly relies on pathological diagnosis, and then combined with medical history, clinical symptoms and other examinations, so it is recommended that patients should ask specialists for a comprehensive assessment.
