Characteristics of the child’s wound

After a child is injured, many parents are concerned about infection or scarring, or even affecting the child’s future. As a father, I understand such feelings, and as a mother, I am probably even more anxious. A mother once anxiously asked me: Are there any dressings and anti-scar medications specifically for children? In fact, the use of drugs or dressings for adult and children’s wounds is similar, the difference lies in the method of use. Children’s wounds and the need to pay attention to the characteristics of the matter: 1, children’s wounds will be deeper children’s skin is thinner, the same injury, will cause more serious consequences. Here is what needs to be said: many children trauma or burns, they are less able to express themselves, and therefore delayed treatment. For example, when boiling water burns the hand, it may leak into the cuff, but the adult then notices the scalding of the hand, and by the time he realizes that his arm is also injured, the hot water has already been in the clothes for a long time, and this situation can cause a deeper wound. Note: If a small child is injured, it is important to examine it carefully and not draw too much attention to superficial wounds. Sometimes it’s the unseen places that hurt the most. 2, small children’s wounds are more likely to cause fever Infants and young children’s brain fever center development is incomplete, resulting in a little wind will cause high fever. Life will also find: the child’s cold fever is generally very high, more than 39 ℃ is commonplace. For trauma, the fever usually starts 3 or 4 days after the injury and lasts for a few days. The deeper the wound, the higher the fever and the longer it lasts. This is a normal reaction, no need to be too alarmed. Precautions: temperature below 38.5 ℃ without special treatment, physical cooling can be, is ice on the forehead or armpits; more than 38.5 ℃, in the physical cooling on the basis of the recommended oral or anal antipyretic medication; more than 39.5 ℃ recommended to the hospital. 3, the child’s wound is not easy to infection Many people think: the child’s resistance is poor, it should be more easily infected. Indeed, the child’s immunity is weaker than adults. However, in clinical practice, we found that children rarely have serious infections. This may have something to do with the fact that children are highly valued and will receive more formal treatment once they are injured, and will be more diligent in changing their medication. Adults, on the other hand, often choose to stay up on their own after an injury due to their busy schedules, and as a result, they become infected very easily. Another reason is that the oil secretion of the child’s skin is less, and the skin will not become dirty even if it is not bathed for a long time. Note: It is not recommended to change the medicine too often for children, because the crying and struggling during the change and improper operation during the change will also affect the healing of the wound. It is recommended once every 1-2 days in the early days and once every 3-4 days after a week. Using some new foam dressings, you can even change the dressing once every 4-5 days. 4, small children’s wounds heal faster Children’s metabolism is fast, the body’s growth hormone secretion is strong, more growth factors on the wound, healing faster. Many wounds that require surgery for adults can be healed by children through medication changes. By the way, since children are mostly uncooperative with treatment, if surgery is considered, it must be under general anesthesia. However, general anesthesia surgical treatment is not recommended for children under 2 years of age. Caveat: This is why deep wounds in small children tend to be treated non-surgically, with severe scarring later in life, and then reconstructive surgery after healing. This program is better than the results of implant surgery before healing. 5, small children’s wounds grow scars more serious wounds grow fast, healing scars grow equally fast. Not only is it characterized by fast growth, but the proliferation lasts a long time and is heavy. Some parts of the scar contracture pulling, and even make the joint deformation or affect the growth and development. There is another important reason why children cannot cooperate well with anti-scar treatment. The whole course of anti-scar treatment is long and relatively tedious, and it is difficult for adults to stick to it, and even more difficult for children.
