What does hypodensity of the head of the pancreas mean?

If a patient has imaging of the pancreas that suggests hypodense foci in the head of the pancreas, several diseases should be considered and the imaging should be combined with clinical signs and symptoms. If CT suggests hypodensity of the pancreatic head, the following diseases should be considered: first, malignant tumor of the pancreatic head; second, cyst of the pancreatic head; third, mucinous tumor of the pancreatic head. No matter which disease, MRI scan plus enhancement of the pancreas should be done to further clarify. We should also pay attention to the patient’s symptoms and signs, whether there is abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain and distension, and wasting, etc., which can be further clarified by combining imaging and symptoms and signs.
