What is variant asthma

Variant asthma is a special type of asthma that is distinguished from typical bronchial asthma without the typical manifestations such as obvious shortness of breath and dyspnea, and specifically includes cough variant asthma and chest congestion variant asthma. Cough variant asthma has cough as the main or only symptom without chest tightness, shortness of breath, or dyspnea. In contrast, chest congestion variant asthma has chest congestion as the only symptom, without cough, shortness of breath and dyspnea, etc. Therefore, for variant asthma, it often needs to be clarified with the clinical history as well as relevant tests. For example, allergen screening, lung function, and bronchodilator test or bronchial excitation test need to be perfected.
