A few things you should know about scar treatment

1. Can scars be completely removed?

At present, the treatment of scar is still a world problem, once it is produced, it will exist permanently.

The measure of surgical scar removal is to replace a small scar with a large one, and it is normal for the wound to be red and hard in the short term after surgery. After the surgery, we will try our best to make the scars blurred and closer to the normal skin appearance by using photoelectric comprehensive treatment.

2.How long does it take for the wound to recover?

The human body starts the repair process after injury, and the formation of scar is one of the final results of the wound repair. Short-term redness, pain and itching after injury or surgery are normal, please wait patiently for the body to recover.

It takes about 1~2 summers for the scar to enter a stable state (not half year as rumored by the internet), and even longer time to recover for severe trauma or keloid patients (not keloid).

3.What is super tension reduction fine suture?

Wounds tend to grow wider and wider or grow and bulge due to skin tension and the pulling force generated during activities. The “super tension reduction fine suture” is designed to combat this problem to the greatest extent possible. After surgery, the skin near the incision is raised, and this raised state will generally remain for 3-6 months, and the longer it exists the better it is for the wound, and the thinner the scar will be. Therefore, do not intentionally rub or press to flatten it after surgery for the sake of momentary aesthetics.

Special reminder: If the skin near the incision is not flattened for more than 6 months after surgery, please contact your doctor promptly.

4.When can I wash my face and shower?

(1) After PLASMA or CO2 fractional laser treatment: 1~5 days after surgery, avoid getting water on the wound, avoid scratching and touching the wound to prevent infection. On the 6th day after surgery, when the scab is thin and dry without oozing, you can start to wash the treatment area. If the scab is thick, it is strictly forbidden to remove the scab by external force and the time of wetting the wound should be extended appropriately.

(2) After surgery: Generally, 24 hours after the stitches are removed, the treatment area can be cleaned normally. In special cases, please follow the doctor’s instructions.

(3) After drug injection: Generally, you can wash the treatment area 24 hours after treatment. For special cases, please follow the doctor’s instructions.

(4) After 595 laser treatment: Avoid washing the treatment area with hot water within 24 hours after the operation.

5.Can I still eat soy sauce in order to prevent discoloration?

It is common knowledge for almost every patient to avoid eating after surgery, so which foods should be avoided? How long should I refrain from eating?

In principle, you should abstain from eating for more than 6 months after receiving treatment, the longer the better. Patients with keloid scars should abstain from eating for at least 2 years. If the treated area becomes red, itchy, or the scar hardens or starts to grow after eating the contraindicated food, the contraindication should be maintained until there is no such reaction.

(1) Avoid eating spicy foods

Spicy food (non-fishy food) refers to irritating food with a pungent taste, such as chili peppers and alcoholic beverages.

Stir-fry choking with onion, ginger and garlic because of the content of less, can be eaten (except for some sensitive people, that is, after eating the wound immediately appear red, itchy and other symptoms)

(2) eat less beef and mutton.

(3) All the foods not mentioned above can be consumed. There is no scientific basis for the rumor that eating soy sauce can cause discoloration and other conditions.

Special Note: After facial surgery, avoid eating too hot, too hard food before removing the stitches, avoid talking too much and forbid laughing to avoid pulling the wound causing delayed healing or even causing the wound to crack.

6.Strengthen sun protection and prevent discoloration

(1) Sun protection should be strictly enforced for at least 3 months after receiving scar treatment.

This is because in early healing wounds, melanocytes distributed in the basal layer of the skin are highly susceptible to UV irritation and rapid proliferation, so physical sun protection (sun hat, sunscreen) and/or chemical sun protection (sunscreen SPF > 30) is necessary, otherwise there is a risk of hyperpigmentation.

(2) In the case of depigmented scars, i.e., white scars, no special sun protection is required after photoelectric treatment in order to encourage the pigment cells to “crawl” to the scar area through UV radiation and restore it to a near normal skin tone.

The specific sun protection or not, please follow the doctor’s advice.

7.How to choose skin care products and cosmetics?

(1) Any skin care products or cosmetics should be used after the scabs have completely fallen off.

(2) During the first 3 months after receiving facial anti-scar treatment, the skin is in a more fragile period and allergic reactions are likely to occur after applying skin care products and cosmetics. When using these products, make sure to apply them on normal skin for 2~3 days experimentally and use them on the treated area only when there is no any abnormality.

8.When can I use anti-scar medication? How long should I use them?

(1) After the wound is removed and the scab has completely fallen off, patch-type and/or applicator-type medications can be used. It is important to ask your doctor whether the two types of medications can be used in combination.

(2) Anti-scar medication should be used until the scar has softened and receded, depending on the individual’s body type.

9.How to use anti-scar medication?

(1) Patch-type medication is most effective when worn throughout the day.

The first time you use it, you should wear it for about 4 hours, and then increase the time of use day by day until it increases to 12 hours, which is the best effect for all-day use. When taking a shower, swimming, or sweating a lot, you can remove it and continue to use it after drying.

(2) Apply the class of drugs should not be applied too thick, otherwise the outer layer has not been absorbed by the body has been dried out, will not work, will only cause waste.

Allergic reactions rarely occur with topical medications. If only itchy symptoms occur during use is normal, there is no need to worry too much. The symptoms will be relieved after 1 month if the interval of medication is properly extended. If other symptoms (such as red rash) appear, please stop the drug and consult your doctor promptly.

(3) In order to prevent the scar from widening due to the tension of the skin, some patients also need to use no-sew tape.

How to use no-sew tape: trim the patch-type medicine to slightly wider than the scar 1~2mm (too wide will reduce the efficacy of no-sew tape), after applying the patch-type medicine, use the no-sew tape in the vertical direction of the scar to tighten the skin on both sides of the scar, and apply it at intervals according to the length of the scar (no need to paste too dense, nor too little).

(4) Non-depressed keloid scars occurring on the upper extremities, lower extremities or forehead should also be compressed with an elastic bandage.

Elastic bandages can be purchased at sports stores (wrist bands, knee pads, elbow pads, varicose vein pants, etc.) or custom-made. They should not be too loose or too tight, but should be of appropriate compression and soft fabric.
