What is the Department of Interventional Medicine?

Interventional medicine is not strictly a department, but only a technique or a means. For example, if a biliary tract malignancy is inoperable, endoscopic stent implantation can be used, which is also a kind of interventional treatment. For liver cancer, interventional embolization or particle implantation can be done by trans-femoral artery cannulation, which is also a kind of interventional treatment. Stent placement through arterial cannulation to dilate blood vessels and avoid aneurysm rupture is also an interventional treatment. For acute myocardial infarction, thrombolytic therapy or balloon dilation is also an interventional treatment. Therefore, intervention is only a method or means of treatment and cannot be called a department in the strict sense.
