Management of preoperative soft tissue injuries in trauma patients

The management and protection of soft tissue injuries is considered to be the most important aspect of fracture treatment. The treatment of soft tissue injuries is as important as the treatment of fractures. Most of the complications of fractures that have long plagued surgeons and patients are related to soft tissue injuries. Orthopaedic surgeons should be aware of the importance of soft tissue protection during the treatment of fractures. Non-operative treatment of soft tissues is mainly devoted to the control of edema and prevention of further damage. Preoperative surgical interventions (repositioning, skin traction, bone traction, external fixation in a cast, elevation of the affected limb, etc.) are necessary for patients with fractures to avoid further damage to the soft tissues at the fracture site.
