What causes foot drop?

Foot drop is mostly caused by peroneal nerve injury or deep peroneal nerve injury, and may also be caused by tibialis anterior tendon or muscle injury rupture.
1. Common cause of ptosis is common peroneal nerve injury or deep peroneal nerve injury, such as fracture of the fibular tuberosity may lead to peroneal nerve injury, causing peroneal nerve dysfunction, resulting in foot ptosis, or foot pronation strength is reduced or even powerless, which may be accompanied by sensory impairment of the foot, such as numbness, hyperalgesia, etc. In addition, deep peroneal nerve injury may also cause the foot can not dorsiflexion, resulting in foot ptosis.
In addition, deep peroneal nerve injury can also lead to the foot can not be dorsiflexed, resulting in foot ptosis symptoms.
2. Tibialis anterior tendon injury: tibialis anterior tendon is the main tendon governing ankle dorsiflexion, followed by the extensor digitorum longus tendon and the third peroneal tendon are also involved in the dorsiflexion of the foot, when these tendons are injured and ruptured, it can cause the foot can not be dorsiflexed and the phenomenon of foot ptosis.
3. Tibialis anterior muscle injury: tibialis anterior muscle, the third peroneal muscle, and the extensor digitorum longus are the muscles that control the dorsiflexion of the foot and ankle joint, and if these muscles are injured or ruptured, then it may cause foot ptosis.
The cause of foot drop can only be determined after electromyography and some imaging tests. Early treatment is good for healing, so early diagnosis and treatment under the guidance of a doctor is recommended.
