Infant breathing with a large undulating stomach may be a normal phenomenon, or it may be caused by wheezing bronchitis and other diseases. 1. Normal phenomenon: infants are mainly abdominal breathing when they are born, so the child’s stomach will appear to undulate when gasping for air. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and does not require treatment. 2. Wheezing bronchitis: It may be caused by viral infections such as respiratory syncytial virus, parainfluenza virus, adenovirus and rhinovirus. Patients will have cough, episodes of wheezing, fever and other symptoms, and patients will have symptoms such as shallow and rapid breathing during physical examination. If an infant develops wheezing bronchiolitis, the patient may have a heaving stomach when breathing. Parents are advised to take their child to a doctor if the infant shows signs of a heaving stomach during breathing, and the doctor will choose the appropriate treatment for the patient’s condition.
