Patients with prostate cancer should have their prostate specific antigen (PSA) reviewed every 1 to 3 months after endocrine therapy.
During the review:
- Liver function should be monitored if you are taking oral anti-androgens and should be reviewed monthly for the first 3 months and every 3 to 6 months thereafter.
- Bone scans are indicated when PSA remains elevated or when bone pain is present.
- If other discomfort occurs, tests are also needed depending on the condition.
In addition, if the patient is progressing rapidly, the follow-up interval should be shortened.
