After esophagectomy and gastric lifting, eating is usually not affected, but there are cases of wound infection and inflammation, wound scarring and so on, which may affect eating.
1. Wound infection and inflammation: mostly due to the invasion of bacteria in the stomach during the operation, which triggers the infection in the case of weaker resistance of the body after the operation, resulting in the wound not being able to heal or even the formation of a fistula. At this time, the patient can not eat normally, need to carry out symptomatic treatment.
2. Wound scar hyperplasia: After esophagectomy and gastric lifting, scar tissue repair will occur on the wound suture surface. When the patient is scarred or the wound is not regularly and effectively dilated after the operation, the scar tissue on the wound surface is very likely to overgrow, which will lead to esophageal stenosis. At this point, the patient will have difficulty in swallowing and eating.
Due to the different recovery conditions of patients, it is not possible to generalize the effect of esophagectomy and gastric lifting on eating. Patients are advised to follow the doctor’s instructions for medication and regular checkups, and to consult the doctor immediately if they feel unwell.
