The depression and shriveling of nails at the crescent may be caused by trauma, or by diseases such as onychomycosis or psoriasis vulgaris.
1. Trauma: when the nails have been extruded, smashed and other traumatic injuries, to a certain extent, it will cause damage to the nails and the surrounding tissues, and then it will be easy to appear nail crescent sunken and shriveled.
2. ringworm of the nail: this disease is mainly caused by red trichophyton, trichophyton fungus and other dermatophyte infection, but it may also be caused by ringworm of the hand, ringworm of the foot direct infection. The main symptom is that the nail plate appears turbid, separated, warped, uneven and so on, so the patient’s nails may have the performance of depression and dryness at the crescent.
3. Ordinary-type psoriasis: the cause of this disease is still unclear, may be related to heredity, infection, immune abnormality, endocrine factors and so on. The nails of some patients will be affected, with nail separation, hyperkeratosis under the nail, thimble-like depression and other phenomena, which can be manifested as sunken and shriveled nails at the crescent.
It is recommended that patients with sunken and shriveled nails should actively go to the hospital for diagnosis, clarification of the cause of the disease, and standardized treatment in accordance with the doctor’s instructions.
