Bronchial asthma (hereinafter referred to as asthma) is a chronic respiratory disease, prone to recurrent attacks, and many patients have some misunderstandings in treatment, which are analyzed and introduced one by one. Asthma is closely related to allergic constitution, and once formed, allergic constitution cannot be changed, so asthma is an incurable disease. Modern medicine believes that through regular, scientific long-term treatment, the majority of patients (>80%) can get “complete control” of their disease and work and live without any restrictions. However, some patients do not want to receive the concept of long-term treatment, and seek medical treatment everywhere, hoping to obtain a cure for the disease, and certain businesses in society, travel doctors, and even some medical practitioners, taking advantage of the eagerness of such patients, through some irresponsible media, medical advertising, marketing the so-called “prescriptions, secret recipes” to make huge profits. In fact, these “prescriptions” often contain a large number of oral glucocorticoids and even immunosuppressants, which are indeed effective for short-term use, but long-term use, with many side effects, will aggravate the patient’s condition. This is tantamount to “quenching the thirst of the turtledove”. Compared with oral medication, inhalation medication has a direct effect, fast onset of action, low dosage and few side effects, which is a major feature of asthma treatment. However, the inhalation method is tedious and generally requires repeated demonstrations by physicians before patients can master it. Sometimes clinicians are not responsible enough or they do not know how to use it, so they are unable to teach patients the correct demonstration. After patients get the drug, they do not know how to use it, or use the wrong method, so they do not get the proper efficacy, and over time, they will lose confidence in this kind of drugs. Therefore, patients must ask their physicians repeatedly before formally using inhaled preparations and learn the correct way to use them. Reluctance to accept glucocorticosteroid treatment Glucocorticosteroids (hormones for short), especially inhaled hormones, have strong anti-inflammatory effects and are currently the most effective drugs for the treatment of asthma. Some patients worry about the side effects of long-term use of glucocorticosteroids and are therefore reluctant to receive such drugs. Unlike oral and intravenous hormones, inhaled hormones have strong local anti-inflammatory effects, are used in small doses, and systemic side effects such as obesity, osteoporosis, and diabetes are rare. After nearly half a century and tens of millions of patients, inhaled hormones have been proven to be a very safe and effective drug, even for children and pregnant patients.
