It is essentially impossible to reset the hip by self-resetting, so-called hip misalignment, which is also known academically as hip dislocation. Due to the particularly large muscles surrounding the hip joint, namely the quadriceps, the largest muscle in the body, together with the larger muscles biceps femoris and gluteus maximus as well as the external rotator muscles, once the hip is dislocated, it is not possible to achieve a reset without the use of the correct direction and a very large traction force, and therefore it is not possible to achieve a self-reset. The patient’s hip needs to be immobilized and the hip and knee flexed at 90 degrees and pulled upward with force in order to reset the hip, and it usually takes at least 2-3 people to reset the hip successfully.
