Increased menstrual flow after IUD is considered to be related to local stimulation and the detachment of birth control ring.
1. Local stimulation: after the IUD is put into the uterine cavity, as it is a foreign body to the uterus, it will cause uterine contraction, so the patient will have heavy menstrual flow, abdominal pain and other discomforts, and at the same time, it will play the role of contraception by causing local aseptic inflammation, which may cause endometrial congestion and edema, and there will be heavy menstrual flow and other manifestations.
2. Dislodgement of the IUD: If the IUD moves down or falls out of the uterine cavity, it will stimulate the endometrial lining to peel off irregularly, which will lead to increased menstrual flow or prolonged menstrual period, abdominal pain and other symptoms.
Generally, patients need to adapt to the IUD for 3~6 months, during this period, patients will experience abdominal pain, irregular vaginal bleeding and other discomforts, generally after stopping bleeding and other symptomatic treatments, the symptoms can be improved, and if they still can’t adapt to the IUD, then the IUD needs to be removed, and the patient should choose other contraceptive methods of contraception.
For women with increased menstrual flow after IUD, it is recommended to go to the gynecology department of a regular hospital, complete the ultrasound and other relevant examinations, and then take active treatment under the guidance of the doctor after clarifying the cause of the disease.
