Can lung nodules turn into lung cancer?

Lung nodules have the potential to transform into lung cancer, but the two are not necessarily related.
Lung nodule is a descriptive imaging term for a roundish lesion in the lungs that appears on CT and is usually found during a physical examination. They are mainly due to inflammation, tuberculosis or fungal infection. It has been reported in studies to occur in more than 80 diseases, mostly benign lesions such as benign granulomas, infections, and intrapulmonary lymph nodes, but also malignant diseases such as primary lung cancer and metastatic tumors.
The degree of malignancy of lung nodules is often related to their size. Nodules smaller than 1cm are usually benign and do not show clinical symptoms, and generally do not require medication, and regular follow-up CT examination every three months is sufficient; if the nodules gradually become bigger and show rough edges, then there is a tendency of malignancy, which needs to be combined with further examination, such as thin-layer scanning CT of the lung foci, PET-CT, or puncture biopsy of the lung nodules to make a clear diagnosis.
If you find nodules on your lungs, you don’t need to worry too much, you should consult a doctor in time, and under the doctor’s guidance, you should clarify the cause of the disease and follow up regularly for further treatment if necessary.
