What to do if an adult gets a foreign body stuck in their throat

Adults throat stuck foreign body can be divided into pharyngeal foreign body, laryngeal foreign body, need to cooperate with the doctor in a timely manner to remove the foreign body, and sometimes need to be treated with medication.
1. Pharyngeal foreign body: If the fish splinter, bamboo stick, etc. in the oropharynx, you can use medical tweezers to clip out. If the foreign body is in the root of the tongue, epiglottis, pyriform fossa, etc., it needs to be taken out with foreign body forceps under indirect laryngoscope or fiberoptic laryngoscope. If there is localized infection, antibiotics such as amoxicillin and erythromycin should be applied after removal of the foreign body.
If the foreign body penetrates into the pharyngeal wall and is complicated by pharyngeal or parapharyngeal abscess, according to the condition, we can choose to drain the pus through the mouth or cervical incision and remove the foreign body at the same time.
2. Laryngeal foreign body: For laryngeal foreign body, the foreign body should be removed as soon as possible under direct laryngoscopy or electronic laryngoscope. If the foreign body is large, blocking the vocal folds and causing obvious respiratory difficulties, and it is difficult to remove the foreign body under direct laryngoscopy, tracheotomy can be carried out first.
Adults are advised to seek medical attention if they have a foreign body stuck in their throat, and not to do it on their own to avoid aggravating their condition.
