Hospitalization for a few days for bile duct extraction

The length of hospital stay after choledochotomy for stone extraction depends mainly on the location of the bile duct surgery. In case of extrahepatic bile duct surgical removal, the patient can be discharged from the hospital in 3-5 days after surgery, and rehabilitation is required after discharge. In the case of intrahepatic bile duct stones, the liver may need to be incised and possibly partially removed, and the hospital stay is usually 1 week. If there are complications, such as biliary fistula or infection, combined with other problems such as lung infection, the hospital stay may be longer. The length of hospital stay is determined on a patient-by-patient basis and cannot be uniformly determined. The bile duct stone extraction procedure is relatively simple, and it is possible to be discharged in three days. If ERCP or ESD is performed, the bile duct stones can be removed through the duodenal papilla by endoscopy, and the nasobiliary tube can be placed for 2-3 days after the removal. In case of percutaneous hepatic puncture, it may take 3-5 days to do stone removal. In the case of intrahepatic bile duct stones, because the procedure is relatively complex, the risk of complications may be high, the observation time will be long, and the hospital stay will be slightly longer.
