What to do about cervical spinal myelopathy

When cervical spinal cord lesions are present, different treatment options are needed depending on the cause. They mainly include conservative treatment and surgery. 1. Conservative treatment: If the patient’s spinal cord lesion is caused by vascular disease or benign lesion of the spinal cord itself, most of the patients adopt conservative treatment. Conservative treatment includes: physical therapy, rehabilitation training, oral medication, shock therapy and so on. Different treatment programs are needed depending on the disease. 2. Surgery: Surgery is often needed if the patient’s spinal cord lesions are caused by conditions such as spinal cord cervical spondylosis or tumors. For spinal cord disease, once the diagnosis is clear, surgery is usually considered because the spinal cord is non-renewable. In the case of spinal cord lesions due to tumors, surgery is followed by a decision on whether or not radiotherapy is needed, depending on the type of pathology.
