Drinking alcohol is not recommended after taking Clarithromycin Dispersible Tablets. Because Clarithromycin Dispersible Tablets belongs to macrolide antibiotics, it can cause liver damage. Drinking alcohol will increase the burden on the liver, so drinking alcohol after taking Clarithromycin may aggravate liver damage, so alcohol is not recommended. However, Clarithromycin Dispersible Tablets do not produce a disulfiram-like reaction with alcohol. Disulfiram-like reaction is a reaction between cephalosporin antibiotics and nitroimidazole antibiotics such as metronidazole and ornidazole with alcohol. Its typical manifestation is that after drinking alcohol, patients have reactions such as flushing, palpitations, chest tightness, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, hypotension, shock, etc., which can even be life-threatening. Therefore, although clarithromycin is not a cephalosporin and does not produce disulfiram-like reactions.
