Effects of Liver Points

Liver Yu acupoint has the effects of dispersing the liver and regulating qi, inducing bile and relieving depression, and is mainly used for treating jaundice with redness and pain and itching in the eyes, bird’s eye, greenish-blindness, uncertainty of vision, coughing up blood, vomiting blood, epistaxis (nosebleed), and other conditions. Liver point is located in the spinal region of the back, 1.5 inches away from the posterior midline (spine) and below the spinous process of the 9th thoracic vertebra. It belongs to one of the commonly used acupoints of the foot solar bladder meridian and has the effect of dispersing the liver, regulating qi and relieving bile and depression, and is mainly used for treating jaundice, eye redness, pain and itchiness, sparrow’s eyes, greenish-blindness, unclear vision, coughing up blood, vomiting blood, epistaxis and other disorders. It is commonly used in modern clinics to treat hepatitis, cholecystitis, chronic gastritis, intercostal neuralgia, menstrual disorders and jaundice. When taking this point, adopt the prone position, find the position of the inferior angle of the scapula (generally flat 7th thoracic vertebra), and from the inferior angle of the scapula, go down to find the spinous process of the 9th thoracic vertebra, and the position of the posterior midline 1.5 inches away from it is this point. It should be noted that, because of the richness of the muscles on the inner side of the Liver point, it should be stabbed inwardly and obliquely when needling. At the same time, avoid straight or outward angled stabs, so as not to puncture the chest wall and cause pneumothorax.
