Empty toenails may be caused by micronutrient deficiencies, nail bed separation and onychomycosis.
1. Micronutrient deficiency: patients with long-term picky eating, partiality and other bad dietary habits, resulting in patients with calcium and vitamin D deficiency and other micronutrients, may appear to be always empty toenails symptoms.
2. Separation of nail bed: the separation of nail bed may be caused by trauma or other reasons, and the toenails will buckle under the action of external force, and the symptom of nails are always empty will appear.
3. ringworm of the nail: mostly due to tinea pedis direct infection caused by fungal invasion of the nail plate as well as the subnail tissue leading to nail disease, invasion of the nail plate can be cloudy, uneven and broken and other manifestations, when the entire nail plate is destroyed, there can be all or part of the shedding, resulting in the nail peel, so that the nail becomes empty.
There are other possible causes of empty toenails (e.g., concomitant symptoms of lichen planus), so it is recommended to go to the hospital in time for examination and diagnosis, and choose the corresponding treatment under the guidance of the doctor.
