Positive HPV 16 and HPV 18 indicates infection with human papillomavirus, that is, types 16 and 18. There are more types of HPV, and among the high-risk HPV types 16 and 18 are prone to cervical cancer. Between 70-90% of cervical cancer patients are infected with these two types of viruses. Therefore, if these two types of viruses are found during pre-cancer screening, or if one of them is found, colposcopy is the next step, and a biopsy will be taken for pathology under colposcopic observation to determine the next step of treatment. There is no need to worry too much about having this high risk virus, as the vast majority of people, that is more than 90%, will clear up in less than two years.
