What causes numbness in the heel?

Numbness of the heel may be physiological factors such as prolonged compression, etc., or pathological factors, such as lumbar intervertebral disc herniation, diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
1. Physiological factors: If the heel is compressed for a long time, such as squatting for a long time, it will lead to poor blood circulation in the lower limbs and cause numbness in the heel.
2. Pathologic factors:
(1) Lumbar intervertebral disc herniation: when the lumbar intervertebral disc herniation compresses the nerve root, it may lead to abnormal sensation of the heel, resulting in numbness, as well as weakening of the foot-plantar flexor muscles and weakening of the ankle reflex.
(2) Diabetic peripheral neuropathy: If the patient’s diabetes is more serious, it may lead to lower limb peripheral nerve damage, which may cause numbness of the heel.
Heel numbness patients in the exclusion of physiological factors, it is recommended to go to the hospital in a timely manner, to clarify the cause of the disease, and for treatment.
