The survival period after surgery for lower bile duct cancer needs to be judged based on various factors such as the type of pathology during surgery, whether there is metastasis, as well as whether the postoperative care is appropriate, the patient’s physical quality and whether there is regular review. Generally speaking, if the tumor does not recur after 5 years, it can be regarded as clinical cure. Because of the high malignancy of lower bile duct cancer, the average 5-year survival rate of patients is only 20%-40%. Because of the high probability of local and distant recurrence of lower bile duct cancer after surgery, adjuvant radiotherapy should be applied after surgery to improve the survival of patients. In addition, after treatment, patients should closely observe whether there is tumor recurrence and review on time. If postoperative patients have jaundice, white clay-like stools, darker urine, pain in the waist and abdomen, fever, nausea, vomiting, weakness, fatigue, itchy skin and other symptoms, they should go to hospital for examination in time to rule out any recurrence of bile duct cancer. Patients are advised to have a healthy diet, eat less and more meals, and quit smoking and alcohol.
