The main causes of thick tongue coating include phlegm-dampness, phlegm-heat, spleen deficiency, etc. You can take Er Chen Tang, Wen Gallbladder Tang or Ginseng Ling Bai Zhu San respectively.
1. Thick tongue coating with white and greasy tongue coating, accompanied by sweet and sticky mouth, sticky stools, sticky toilet, heavy limbs, and fatigue are considered to be caused by phlegm-dampness. You can take Er Chen Tang for treatment.
2. Thick tongue coating with yellow tongue coating, bad breath, dry mouth, burning stool, sticky toilet, irritability, etc., considering the thick tongue coating caused by phlegm-heat. It can be treated with Warm Bile Soup or Longdian Diarrhea Liver Soup.
3. If the thick tongue coating is accompanied by teeth marks around the tongue, pale white tongue, greasy moss, inability to eat cold drinks, loose stools, indigestion, etc., it is considered to be thick tongue coating caused by spleen deficiency. It can be treated with Ginseng Ling Bai Zhu San or Lizhong Wan.
