What are the dangers of otitis media?

  1. Affects the middle ear’s role in conducting and amplifying sound, leading to conductive deafness. If secretory otitis media affects children’s hearing leading to learning disabilities, it often fails to attract the attention of parents and is often found due to repeated calls that do not answer or watching TV with a loud sound! 2, purulent otitis media long-term chronic inflammation can damage the inner ear, which leads to mixed deafness, hearing loss is relatively mild at an early age, aggravated at a later stage, and becomes more pronounced the older they get. 3, Acute suppurative otitis media without timely treatment can lead to various complications: including intracranial and extracranial complications; such as brain abscess, meningitis, and sigmoid sinus thrombophlebitis. 4. Facial palsy. The facial nerve travels through the middle ear to innervate facial movements, and otitis media has the risk of causing facial palsy, which manifests itself as inability to close the eyes, distorted corners of the mouth, and diminished taste sensation in the tongue. 5. It leads to perforation of the eardrum and long-term pus flow. 6. Long-term otitis media with blood should be alerted to the possibility of middle ear cancer, especially when the flow of pus is found to be with bloody fluid or accompanied by persistent pain that cannot be relieved!
