How long to boil herbal medicine is better

The time for soaking herbs before boiling is closely related to the composition of the herbs and the seasonal temperature. Soaking herbs before boiling can make the herbs moist and fluffy and improve the active ingredients of boiled herbs. Herbs with flowers, leaves and stems as the main ingredients have a softer texture and generally need to be soaked for about 15 minutes to half an hour. If the herbs with harder texture such as fruits, roots and seeds, usually need to be soaked for about one hour. And if the herbs contain animals, minerals, shells and other substances, the texture is more hard, the need to soak for a relatively longer time. If the temperature is lower in the winter, the soaking time is longer; if the temperature is higher in the summer, the soaking time needs to be shortened to avoid the deterioration of the herbs. It is recommended that the amount of water used to soak the herbs be 1-3cm higher than the herbs, stir the herbs occasionally during the soaking process, and don’t pour out the water after soaking the herbs, it can be used to boil the herbs directly so that the herbs can be boiled better.
